Amash Receives Taxpayers’ Friend Award

Tax Watchdog Honors Congressman with Highest Ranking in Michigan

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) received the “Taxpayers’ Friend Award” for his votes to cut federal spending, taxes, debt, and regulation. The National Taxpayers Union (NTU), which gave Amash the award, ranked him as the congressman with the best record on fiscal issues in the Michigan delegation and the second best in the entire House.

“I work every day in Congress to limit the size and scope of the federal government. With $17 trillion of federal debt, we have a moral obligation to our children and grandchildren to put the government on a sustainable path,” said Amash. “I’m honored for the second year in a row to receive the ‘Taxpayers’ Friend Award.’ I thank NTU for the award.”

The NTU Rating is based on every roll call vote affecting federal taxes, spending, debt, and significant regulations. For 2012, a total of 274 House and 127 Senate votes were selected for scoring.

“Congressman Amash’s pro-taxpayer score of 92 percent was one of the best in the entire Congress,” NTU President Duane Parde said. “By casting principled votes for limited government time and again, Congressman Amash has led by example in the fight to defend overburdened taxpayers across the country.”

“If every Member of Congress voted as carefully as Congressman Amash, current and future generations of Americans could enjoy much lower taxes and a less wasteful government,” Parde concluded.
